Frank has a kid

Category: Out and about – treojohnny 2:55 pm

So, my pal Frank up and left me here on the east coast last year…headin back to Oklahoma. Since then I have barely heard a peep (and no, I will not let up on the subject). Anyway, he’s still one of those great people you meet in life so I give him some leeway on the subject.

Today I get a message from him telling me that he not only got married (which I had heard a little about) but last week he had a daughter. This is awesome as he will make an excellent dad!

Saki relaxed

I am convinced that my cat is part dog. She will lay on her back with her tummy exposed all the time, just not used to that in a cat.

DC walkabout

Category: Out and about – Administrator 4:02 pm

Today was a perfect fall day. Me and Jim spent a few hours walking around Dupont and Georgetown, enjoying the weather and the few trees that still had some fall color. I have to say it was a near perfect day and I had not had as much chance to walk around DC this year.
Jim was a great guide. We had tea in the country of Chad (well we sat on the steps of their embassy drinking). Then he showed me the Masons building near Dupont which was an awesome structure. We had lunch at a latin restaurant and enjoyed fried plantains. I hope all my friends had such a good fall day, I fear its the last one we will have before coat weather gets here.

The polls are closed

Category: Life Rants – treojohnny 10:14 pm

Lord…am I tired. So today I spent 17 hours at the local polls as the Asst Chief of Elections for my district. Normally the days are long, spent mostly sitting and waiting on the next few people to show up to vote, but today it was non-stop people. Frankly I was impressed, I estimate that we had close to a 40% turnout.
And since it was so busy, I was up on my feet pretty much the entire day. Making sure everyone was able to use the voting machines. I get so many people, though usually more the elderly, who are scared to even touch the computers. It seems that I act more as therapist and tech when helping people, just making sure they are comfortable and can get their vote cast.
We had a good crew, 7 people in all. I was quite surprised to see a couple of people from work, Scott and Erci, it was their first time working the polls. The mood was good and even when we had HUGE lines both inside and outside the building we kept people happy and moving as much as we could.
Still…must be getting old, standing on that gymnasium floor all day did my feet in and my other lower joints were complaining pretty much also. I am sure some pain meds and sleep will get everything back to order.

Goodbye Dave

Category: Out and about – Administrator 8:21 pm

Sigh….so today I said goodbye to my bud Dave. He and his wife Stacy are leaving the area and moving back to Florida. Dusty threw them a goodbye BBQ at his place and we all had a good time. Though it was still kind of somber to me. Lately it seems more and more people are moving back to their home states. I haven’t made any plans like that though….still to much to see and do here.

Virginia Senate H8rs

Category: Out and about – Administrator 4:13 pm

So here I am driving along in my car…fairly immune to all the campaign signs along the road. But then, something catches my eye. It seems that someone has gone around vandelising the George Allen signs. But instead of just removing them they had stickers printed and put them on the signs. Things like: Lies (see pic), 4Bush, and Hates. Gotta love this state!
