Out and about in the wilderness of Life

Time flys…

Filed under: Life Rants — treojohnny @ 1:27 am

It has been almost a month since my last post, and while I have been busy, I don’t feel like I have accomplished much. Gotta say that I have been down lately, I think that Spring set in and while it is the season of rebirth, right now I just feel like staying inside. I have had to actually schedule walks so that I get motivated to go outside, more than my deck that is.

I need to start making travel plans, but just tired of traveling alone. Its something that I can do and lord knows I have done, but it does get to me eventually. I have a lot of friends out here, and for that matter across the country, but it seems that most people just don’t want to go out and do anything. Just makes it more difficult in the organization of it all.

Celebrity sighting of the day

Filed under: Out and about — Administrator @ 11:50 am

On my stroll today I eventually made my way around the Tidal basin to the Jefferson Memorial. During special events, such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, there is a smallish movable stage on the patio area by the water. Today there were 4 bands playing throughout the day, none of which I had ever heard of, but for some reason there were a bunch of press agencies here with cameras.

Of course this peaked my interest and I squeezed my way forward in the mass. Low and behold at the side of the stage was none other than The band breaker herself, Yoko Ono.

I asked around and found that she was there doing a memorial for her late great husband John Lennon. They had little tags that you could write peaceful saying on and tie them to small trees on the patio.

I find peace in many places through life. my photography for one, doing good deeds for others (like giving some guy batteries for his camera today), art and music. Since this was an event based around a great musician and his legacy, it seemed only right that I put something musically inspired on a tree.

So in spirit of the event and the presenter I hung on my tree the message
"Yoko killed the Beatles!"

I wonder how long it will stay there.

Blossom blossom everywhere

Ahh…Spring. The weather is great (upper 70s today), the people are out to play (but the crowds aren’t bad) and the blossoms are at peak bloom. This was definitely the day to come down and take a walkabout.

The weather is changing soon. Cold front is on its way and we will delve back into the 30s one last time this year. Its shame that old man winter has to try and assert his authority like this each year.

I do enjoy seeing all the people out enjoying our nations capital on a day like this. Lots of tourists, including the smattering of foreigners. That is nice to my ears, walking around hearing all the languages just mixing together. I always like it when I am someplace in the USA and see foreign visitors. How often do you think about traveling overseas to tour a country. Now rfeverse that…Where in the USA do we get the majority of visitors? Obviosly big cities draw them in, but I hear more languages in places like Yellowstone National Park and Disney World.

But I digress. The trees are in bloom, the sky is blue and people are tearing up the tidal basin in the paddle boats. Beautiful day indeed!

Morning commute

Heading into DC today for little walkabout. Spring has sprung and I intend to check out the sites.

Riding the Metro on weekday mornings are always a ocular treat for me. So many people heading off to their government and corporate jobs in DC from the suburbs. I am a bit mixed on if I would want to work there. It would be nice to ride the subway to work of a morning as opposed to driving, but the congestion of all the people may be to much on a daily basis for this country boy.

WM6 is in da House!

Filed under: Life Rants — Administrator @ 1:13 am

So if i havent said so before, i have a new smartphone. My Treo finally succumb to age-use-abuse and certain functions just stopped working.

I shopped high and low, lord knows i keep the wallet tight. Finally decided on the HTC Hermes (Cingular 8525). Its quite a bit different than my old phone. A slide out side keyboard, Windows instead of Palm and lots of bells and whistles to keep me occupied. The camera is also much better, so most of the pictures on my last trip blog were taken with it.

Yesterday i upgraded the OS to Windows Mobile 6. It went very smooth and the phone for the most part seems to be working better now than before.

Heres a mug shot taken a couple of minutes ago that you can print out for your dartboard.
