Out and about in the wilderness of Life – This is my little place to keep track of things that happen while I am 0ut and About.

Dragin*Con

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 12:01 pm

Wow…Its Monday and the show is wrapping up finally. The elevators are overstuffed with people trying to check out. People are sitting around the lounge area of the closed bar looking rather angry that there is such a bright orb in the sky.

The weekend went by fast and rather furiously. I really don’t feel like I got to see as much as usual, to many people and to many lines. I think I will try to make it back next year, but probably will do only one other show for the year. This year I did 3 very large shows and 3 medium sized shows. Frankly I am burned out, feel like everything and everybody just runs together after awhile.

By far I like to go to be with my friends as much as anything else. Seeing the various stars and getting autographs are always the next thing on my list. I have definitely seen and done pretty much everything else.

Goodbye Atlanta, your a great place to spend a long Labor Day weekend at…see you next year!

Drinks with Carson

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 5:06 pm

Way to mauch boooze and beer with Paul (aka Carson Beckate) from Stargate Atlantis. Great guy, but would only drink vodka tonics. Me and Kev kept up with everyone else.

Early Sunday charity auction

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 10:45 am

I hate waking up early during a con. Oh I was able to get a few things done, and Amy went to brunch with me, so not a bad thing. All the other boys were still sleeping like logs when I left though.

Sitting here in the charity auction I realize that this is the first year that Kevin Sorbo hasn’t been here to hawk some of his stuff. He donated plenty but it seemed odd is all.

There are some neat items though. Including a really cool blueprint type plan from the Mythbusters show that sold for $325. A nice amount considering these things were probably thrown away by the show regularly.

Bad Saturday

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 11:35 pm

Okay, slightly misleading title. The day was good, plenty of things to see and do. But in the middle of the afternoon my new little Ricoh camera, the one I use to blog with, started freaking out on me. I already had been planning to send it in for repairs due to the zoom feature having problems. But now it won’t do much of anything, and I still have two days here and my Seattle leg of the trip to blog on.

I guess I will have to use the crappy camera in my phone for now. You know its not a good phone when you take a picture of you lively friend Amy jumping in the air, and the picture looks more like she is sitting and rather drunk (which we know that would never happen).

FARK it!

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 4:36 pm

If you don’t know FARK then you don’t know the internet quite yet. There are basically 3 alternative news sites out there, Digg.Com, Drudgereport.Com and FARK.Com.

The creator of FARK, Drew Curtis, tends to travel a bit and have local meetups with some of the fans of the site. Dragon*Con is a sure bet to find a bunch of computer nerds.

It was good meeting him, nice laid back kinda guy, and the hotel bar has been completely redone since last year and was awesome.

Here are a gaggle of Slave Girl Leias who were at the bar.

2 Apollos, a Chief and a Battlestar

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 11:15 am

I am sitting in the BSG panel listening to Aaron Douglas, Richard Hatch and Jamie Bamber. Getting some good insights into one of my favorite and highly under rated show. Next season is their last one and I am going to miss them.

Aaron and Jamie have very similar sense of humor and frankly poor Richard is so lost Up there on stage. I guess some people can keep up with quick wits and some can’t.

Dragon*Con Parade

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 11:05 am

I do love a parade, and this one definitely fits my kink. This year I think the attendance at Dragon*Con is around 35,000 and there had to have been about that many on the downtown streets watching the yearly geek parade.

Once again the parade was great and the costumes were awesome. I won’t have the bulk of the pics up till I get home, but here are a few now. Including Ponch on a motorcycle!

Friday Dragon*Con picture dump

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 12:23 am

Well it was a good day all in all. Slept well the night before, even though Jim kept stealing the covers (and apparently I knocked him off the bed at one point). A couple of good panels, some good time with long distance friends, and lots of people watching.

Tummy still a little upset with me about last nights Rum Fest, but that should be over soon. I got some decent pictures today, tomorrow is the parade so opportunity’s will be plentiful.

Perched for the evening

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 12:04 am

Well the boys headed to the football game tonight, I hung around with Amy and Greg. We went to a movie trailer showing (hour long run of movie trailers) and had a light dinner. Next it was up to our usual spot on the perch at the Hyatt.

Throughout the con, the lobby of the Hyatt is one of the main convergence zones for all the costumers. So, since its an atrium, we go one floor up and perch over the railing to see all the costumes go by.

Oh, speaking of Amy….Here’s a shot of her and her Spartan escort for the evening.

Lost in the taint

Category: 2007/08 - Dragon*Con – Administrator 2:23 pm

One of my favorite shows on Cartoon Network is the Venture Bros! I am in their panel right now with Doc Hammer (writer and many of the voices on the show) and Dana Snider (voice on the show and Master Shake from ATHF). They are SO crazy! It is so hard to not fall out of the chair listening to these guys just ramble on.
